Your Impact as a Construction Accountant
Accel is seeking a Construction Accountant for the Chicago Office. The Construction Accountant performs a variety of accounting, insurance compliance, and project administration. Works both independently and within specific departments to maintain financial records and make certain that all records are kept current. Responsible for ensuring that all financial reports are complete, accurate and timely. Must have at least 5 years of construction accounting experience. Proficiency in Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (formerly Sage Timberline Office) is a plus.
Job Responsibilities
- Principal duties include, but are not limited to, handling all accounting functions of the company in a timely and accurate manner and providing reports and schedules to the company’s CPA Firm in the preparation of all financial statements.
- Ensures that all accounting procedures and functions are managed accurately. Responsible for all financial records, payroll, banking and daily operation of the accounting function.
- Manages, prepares and reviews all accounting and budgetary functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, Cash management, General Ledger, Bank and other reconciliations, General Ledger, Job Costing, and Payroll.
- Prepares, analyzes, and makes recommendations regarding monthly financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, WIP, Statement of Cash Flow and Job Costing Reports.
- Provides accounting for all phases of Project Management including contracts, insurance requirements, invoicing, change orders, pay applications, collections, and sub-contractor’s invoices and change orders.
- Has full knowledge of all Company’s accounting functions and procedures.
- Accurately and timely preparation and reconciliation of weekly field and office payrolls, including making proper federal, state and 401K deposits into respective accounts, as well as reconciliation with hh2 time capture software.
- Accumulates job cost data from weekly payroll reports, materials and subcontract billings in order to prepare weekly cost reports for each project.
- Maintains all company operating, payroll, savings and investment banking accounts, including deposits, disbursements and balancing.
- Monitors daily cash balances in operating, savings and investment bank accounts to cover obligations and maximize interest earnings.
- Prepares monthly cash projection reports.
- Prepares bi-weekly trial balance reports.
- Works with Project Managers to prepare and post all monthly invoices.
- Processes and issues all accounts payable and subcontractor payments.
- Generates monthly recaps for Workers Compensation and General Liability insurance premiums.
- Generates monthly Job Cost to Date reports and working with PMs to reconcile with Project Managers’ budgets for each project.
- Performs fiscal year end accounting close outs with CPA.
- Processes employee year end W2’s and 1099 Forms, which include distributing to employee/payee and appropriate Federal and State Agencies.
- Verifies that subcontractors and vendors meet all requirements of contract agreement prior to any payments, including but not limited to waivers, closeout documents, and insurance requirements.
- Maintains accounting files and records on each project.
- Continually interfaces with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure project charges & invoice codes are up to date and accurate. Must ensure that Job Costing and General Ledger are accurate and up to date at all times.
- Has thorough knowledge of Procedures Manual.
- Communicates with subcontractors, consultants and vendors and coordinate receipt of proposals, contracts, insurance, and invoicing.
- Assists with creation and assembly of project bids & proposals.
- Set’s up newly hired employees in the Accounting System.
You Bring Knowledge and Expertise
Must have at least 5 years of Construction Accounting Experience. Proficiency in Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (formerly Sage Timberline Office) and Procore construction management software a plus. Must also be proficient in other computer software systems for the preparation of reports, spreadsheets and other accounting analysis that may be required by management. Must possess strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize. Must be able to communicate effectively.
