The General Services Administration (GSA) tasked Accel Construction with retrofitting the existing Milwaukee Federal Building’s Prisoner/Judge Elevator for the U.S. Marshall Service and upgrading the supporting services. The shaft was refurbished to include patching and painting of the walls and installing light fixtures to illuminate the entire shaft in the event a prisoner escapes and elevator car was completely rebuilt. Elevator improvements included upgrading the control system, a fully integrated scrambled security system. Additional work included painting the elevator lobbies and doors, updated lobby lighting, and an added shaft pit sump pump system.
