Dirksen Firing Range Removal

Nov 7, 2022

This project consisted of the demolition and removal of the firing range space in the Dirksen Federal Courthouse, including environmental remediation to ultimately leave the existing space in a ‘white box’ condition. The Abatement work consisted of removing the fireproofing, insulation, and floor mastic. Lead remediation consisted of removing the lead-based floor paint and lead dust contamination as a result of ammunition. The HVAC scope called for demolition of air handling unit (S-15), existing ductwork, diffusers, grilles, and associated hangers. Existing sprinklers and piping were removed along with loudspeakers, temperature control panels, Airphones, CCTV cameras, spotlights, and existing card readers. Once MEP demolition and partition demolition was complete, all existing openings at the perimeter masonry walls were closed to match existing conditions. New lighting was provided, and the fire alarm was connected to the existing building system. Minor painting of doors/frames was also provided.
