O’Hare Terminal 5 Expansion: Bid Package #6 – TSA Area
Dec 11, 2020
This phased project is a complete renovation and expansion of the main TSA Checkpoint at the O’Hare Terminal 5—International Terminal that also includes a new TSA IT & electrical closet and break room. The renovation includes full BIM modeling and coordination of the area, new MEP and security systems, AHU refurbishing, terrazzo floors, and phenolic, metal, and glass wall panels. The existing TSA area is being kept active while expanding the area from 8,500 SF to 18,000 SF. The TSA Checkpoint at Terminal 5 is active 24-hours a day. Multiple active HVAC and Climate Control Systems had to remain on during construction. Dust and odor control measures had to be implemented to protect the public during demolition, drywall, painting, and terrazzo operations. In addition, our scope of work required various types of barricades and signage to direct the flow of public foot traffic. Accel understands the importance of public and safety during construction.
Cost Control was managed via subcontractor scope reviews, lump sum contract awards, and weekly cost change review meetings. Schedule management utilized 3-week-look-ahead schedules updated weekly and a master schedule updated bi-weekly. Accel implemented the US Army Corps of Engineers’ 3-phase Quality Control approach to ensure the project met the highest standards for quality.
